Church of S. Benedetto 

church of san benedettoVia Crociferi, the heart of Catania's baroque. The church of San Benedetto has a single nave and was built in the early XNUMXth century. The structure is famous above all for the Scalinata dell'Angelo, a marble entrance staircase, adorned with statues depicting some angels and surrounded by a wrought iron gate. The entrance door is made of wood and on it there are scenes from the life of St. Benedict. Inside, the frescoes by Sebastiano Lo Monaco, Giovanni Tuccari and Matteo Desiderato are preserved and the high altar made of polychrome marble with inlays of semi-precious stones and bronze tiles.
