Description

Church of S. Agnese - Ragusa

Agnes

LOCATION: Via Tenente Di Stefano

DATING: XVIII SEC.

SHORT DESCRIPTION: Built in 1703 on the remains of the ancient Church of San Giovanni Battista. According to tradition, in addition to the damage caused by the earthquake, the ancient Church of San Giovanni Battista suffered damage caused by vandals, perhaps interested in putting an end to the existence of the church in Ibla. The remains of the ancient Church of San Giovanni were incorporated into a new church, later called the church of San Agnese. Even today it is possible to notice the arches of the altars of the old church of San Giovanni, disproportionate to the rest of the much more modest current church.
