Fundrò Church - Piazza Armerina

LOCATION: Piazza Garibaldi DATE: 1613 DESCRIPTION: Initially dedicated to San Rocco, in 1622 it was assigned to the Benedictines of the Abbey of Fundrò, who moved to Piazza Armerina following the fire that destroyed their convent. The Benedictines built their convent next to the church, now the seat of the Municipal Administration. The baroque façade is characterized by a tuff portal rich in inlays, placed above a rounded staircase and a sundial placed above the portal itself. The interior of the church, with a single nave, preserves some seventeenth-century paintings and above the main altar a marble "Madonna", which is said to come from the destroyed Abbey of Fundrò.
