Church of the Annunciation of the Theatines
LOCATION: Between Corso Cavour and via S. Cristoforo DATING: 1927 DESCRIPTION The first church was designed by Guarino Guarini, probably on pre-existing structures, between 1660 and 1662, during his stay in Messina. The church was destroyed by the 1908 earthquake and rebuilt in 1927 in the same place by the architect Francesco Barbaro but in neoclassical style. CURIOSITY The facade of the old church of the Annunziata destroyed in 1908 was in Baroque style, and is probably to be considered among the first Baroque works in Sicily.
