The church, also known as the Carmelite church (Carmelite Churc) was built in 1675 to a design by Mederico Blondel des Croisettes. on the site of a pre-existing church. The interior, in Baroque style, preserves paintings and sculptures by Mattia Preti, Stefano Erardi, Michele Bellanti and Giuseppe Calì, The processional statue of the Madonna del Carmine is the work of the Maltese sculptor Andrea Imbroll.
