Church of Our Lady of Pompeii

LOCATION Viale Regima Margherita DATING: XX CENTURY. DESCRIPTION: The church was built by the Capuchin Fathers in 1888, destroyed by the earthquake of 1908, was rebuilt in stages starting from 1909, destroyed by the bombings of 1943, was rebuilt and reopened for worship in 1951. Inside the central nave rests on pillars surmounted by ogival arches in pure Gothic style. On the main altar there is the wooden statuary group of the Madonna del Rosario with Child, with San Domenico and Santa Caterina. The external facade is characterized by a mosaic reproducing the Madonna of Pompeii, by a rose window in the body of the bell tower and a series of Gothic vaulted mullioned windows together with five statues.
