Church of the Madonna dei Mirti
It tells of an old friar, who was returning to his convent in Burgio, from the daily round to collect alms, carrying two paintings on his donkey, one of which depicting the Madonna.
When he was near the convent, he realized he had lost this very painting, retraced his steps, finding it inside a bush of myrtles. Arriving at the convent he told the other friars about the adventure; but, when he wanted to show the painting in question, it disappeared for the second time to be found again in the same myrtle bush. It was then that the inhabitants of the villages of Villafranca Sicula, Burgio and Lucca Sicula, thought that this was the place chosen by the Virgin Mary to build a church. Since then, the Madonna del Mirto became the patron saint of the three villages that dedicated the sanctuary to her.
