Church of SS. Salvatore and Benedictine Monastery - Caltagirone

church of ss. savior

The church of the former Benedictine Monastery is located in via Luigi Sturzo (largo SS. Salvatore) in front of the church of San Domenico. The current structure dates back to the second half of the eighteenth century. The façade is characterized by a baroque portal and above it a large window. Above the large window there are five perforations, three of which are arched. The interior, with an octagonal plan, is rich in stuccoes and preserves a marble statue of 1526 representing the Madonna di Monserrato attributed to Antonello Gagini. The church has been home to the remains of Don Luigi Sturzo since 1963.
