Church of the Savior - Modica
A stone's throw from Portal De Leva, the Church of SS. Savior; dates back to 1400, but was destroyed in the two earthquakes of 1613 and 1693. However, it retains the base of the original bell tower, a carved stone cross and a bell dated 1537. The eighteenth-century reconstruction has enriched the interior, with a nave, with valuable stuccos. Contains relevant works of art. Among the paintings we highlight: Pietro Spinosa, the Immaculate Conception, oil on canvas, 1765; Stefano Ragazzi, S. Caterina, oil on canvas, 1770; Stefano Ragazzi, S. Antonio, oil on canvas 1774; Resurrected Christ, oil on canvas, second half century XVIII; Transit of St. Joseph, oil on canvas, 1667.
