Church of the Rosary (Santa Maria del Rosario or San Domenico)

The church of the Rosario (Santa Maria del Rosario) was built with the adjoining convent in 1600. The interior, with a single nave contains 9 chapels, and preserves many works including:

  • Painted cross of the '400, fixed to the roof
  • Ancient painting of San Domenico, on the left side immediately after the main entrance
  • San PietroMartire (canvas by an unknown author of the '600) and under it a wooden statue of the Madonna del Ponte by Giuseppe Ospedale;[in the first chapel on the left
  • Wooden statue of San Vincenzo Ferreri, (probably from the 700th century); second chapel on the left
  • Canvas of the Madonna del Rosario with the Mysteries, from 1603 and made by Vito Carrera, on the secondary door
  • Canvas of Sant 'Antonio da Padova by Mario Giambona (1713), coming from the former church of Santa Maria dell'Itria; third chapel on the left
  • statue of the Addolorata, on the wall there is a low marble relief from the school of Gagini depicting "The Dormition of the Virgin"; fourth chapel on the left
  • In the apse: a fine altar with the Madonna del Rosario and three wooden statues of the Madonna and Child, San Domenico and Santa Rosa
  • Santa Caterina: (canvas by an unknown author of the '600) on the right side after the main entrance
  • Dominican saint kneeling before the Madonna and Child by Bernardo Rizzuti Pauletti da Corleone (1718); in the second compartment
  • San Domenico, an ancient painting probably from the eighteenth century; at its feet is a wooden statue of Saint Espedito by Domenico Messina; first chapel on the right
  • In the second chapel on the right there is the fresco of Santa Maria della Stella (1464), coming from the homonymous church and attributed to Tommaso De Vigilia; even if deteriorated and faded by the passage of time it still has the original expressive vigor.
  • Sacred Heart of Jesus, wooden statue, in the third chapel on the right
  • Elegant altar with the painting of San Domenico by an unknown author, on the pillars there are 15 ovals representing the 15 mysteries of the Rosary made by Carlo Brunetti in 1759 by the Compagnia del Rosario; fourth chapel on the right. (Source: wikipedia)
