Church of the College
The Jesuits arrived in Trapani in 1581 and in 1596 obtained permission to build the church, benefiting from donations from the Senate and Mariano Mongiardino. the House, former court. The facade was designed by Francesco Bonamici with a first order characterized by frames, pilasters and broken tympanums and a second order enriched by baroque elements, volutes, statues and a central window. The church was consecrated in 1705. The interior has three naves, with columns and serliana arches. The walls are decorated with stuccoes made by Bartolomeo Sanseverino, a pupil of Serpotta, and with marble. In the XNUMXth century, the chapel of Sant'Ignazio was built by the architect GB Amico, to the left of the apse. Recently restored to use and still subject to restoration work, it preserves valuable works including a marble icon, depicting the Immaculate Conception, by Ignazio Marabutti, the wooden wardrobe of the sacristy by Pietro Orlando, a wooden crucifix by Giuseppe Milanti, a painting of Sant'Ignazio by Vito Carreca, a painting of San Francesco Saverio by Pietro Novelli.
