DATING: XVII - XVIII CENTURY.
DESCRIPTION: Built on the same site as the previous 1594th century mother church. of which remains the Catalan Gothic bell tower and a Gaginesque arch (70) placed to the right of the entrance. The building is 76,50 m long. and has a large dome 13,88 meters high with a diameter of XNUMX meters. The Latin cross interior has a large nave with communicating alteral chapels. The Gaginesque marble arch of the baptistery (1594), the tomb of Laura De Assoro (+1597), wife of Marco trigona. On the second altar on the left, a wooden temple, Ecce Homo in terracotta, attributed to the Gagini school. In the left wing of the transept there are: on the left altar the "Assumption", a beautiful painting by Filippo Paladino (1612); opposite, the entrance to the sacristy, which houses a large chest of drawers in walnut sculpted by GB Baldanza in 1612. Above the entrance to the sacristy, a large sixteenth-century canvas, the SS. Trinity; above the adjoining chapel the «Martirio di Sant'Agata», by the mannerist Jacopo Ligozzi (1600); Hanging from the vault of the arch that divides the transept from the central nave, the magnificent "Crucifix" on wood painted on both sides (in the back "Risen Christ") in 1485 by an unknown painter, conventionally known as the "Master of the Cross of the Piazza Armerina ».
