According to some archaeologists, the date of foundation of the first building nucleus of the castle is to be found around the second half of the 1087th century. As evidence of this, there is a document of XNUMX, which testifies to the order by King Roger to build a fortress inside the now conquered city of Girgenti (castellum firmissimum) equipped with towers e propugnacula.
In 1150, in one of his writings, the famous Arab historian, Hydrysis, defined the castle as "an excellent and strong fortress" and as "one of the main fortresses for its attitude to defense".
Today of the ancient castle only some parts above ground remain visible, which do not make a reconstructive reading of the building possible. (Source: Wikipedia)
