Description

Coronation Chapel (and Loggia)

Monte di Pietà district. In Via dell'Inconorazione. Built in the twelfth century. From Ruggero. On the western side there is the Loggia of the Conoration built towards the end of the XNUMXth century.
The chapel with a single single nave, together with the portico, (transformed into a loggia) in the following centuries, was the place from which the kings showed themselves to the people after the coronation or to receive their ovations.
At the turn of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries the Loggia was modified, in particular with the addition of the balustrade. Since then, the Loggia changed its function, becoming the favorite meeting place of the Palermo nobility.
The chapel is now one of the headquarters of the Regional Superintendency for Cultural and Environmental Heritage
