Paleochristian Basilica of Villa Athena
Description

Paleochristian Basilica of Villa Athena

Of the sacred building, built between the fifth and sixth centuries. BC The plan is not known as the excavation is made difficult by the fact that it is located in an area where the structures of a rural complex overlapped since 1700, transformed into a residential villa in the 800th century, now home to the hotel "Villa Athena ". On the other hand, various architectural elements in marble were found on the site such as a capital, a base and a fragment of a column, as well as various fragments of the liturgical furnishings: part of the presbytery enclosure consisting of a slab with a molded frame and a pillar surmounted by a pine cone is preserved , the latter obtained from the reuse of a block of white marble with an epigraph from the Imperial Roman age.
