Basilica of S. Maria Maggiore - Ispica

The eighteenth-century basilica was designed by the architect of Noto Vincenzo Sinatra and a portico with 23 passages that delimits the square is added to it. The interior, with three naves, preserves a stucco decoration by Giuseppe and Giovanni Gianforma and frescoes from 1765 by Olivio Sozzi. It houses a statue of Christ scourged on the column which was moved here after being saved from the earthquake and which is the object of particular veneration during the rites of Holy Week. The building was declared a national monument in 1908
