Description

Balza del Verde

Hellenized indigenous fragment area. (Text source: Guidelines of the regional landscape plan)

La Balza del Verde is located halfway up the rocky ridge between Cozzo Terravecchia and Monte Chibbò: it reaches a maximum height of m. 936, but apparently does not constitute a prominent and advantageous place for the development of an inhabited center. D. Adamesteanu pointed out the presence of an ancient settlement of the Greek age, but no elements are found on the ground to confirm this hypothesis. The north-western part, along the precipice of the Filo di Chibbò, is very rocky on the surface and apparently never seems to have been inhabited. Some fragments of pottery are instead collected in the valley, in a narrow plateau, just below the SE cliff. In the plowed land there are sporadic fragments, very worn, to be dated approximately to the Greek age.

Greek - colonial age (XNUMXth century BC)
