Description

Baglio of Carini

Contrada Praineto, Chiusa Carburangeli (in the tablet read Cardillo), Baglio di Carini, Muro di Carini, settlement (Hikkara?)

These toponyms name a vast area that the cultured tradition identifies with the ancient Hikkara. Starting from the 60s, the works of an intense subdivision destroyed the few archaeological sites considered to be Hikkara, leaving some walls leveled by mechanical shovels. Vittorio Giustolisi, an archeology enthusiast to whom we owe many important discoveries, recently passed away, at the beginning of the 70s investigated them at length, concluding "The finds, therefore, although they let leak an occupation of the place since the third century BC, for most of them reveal a late Roman, Byzantine and Arab phase ”. F ° 249 IV SE Punta Raisi, Baglio di Carini; UTM: 33SUC39002700, Height: m 2 (Text source: Giovanni Mannino Piero Galati: Carini Archaeological Map)
