Zappaiello Equipped Area
From Gangi, on the SS n. 120 take the SP n. 14 for Gangivecchio. After the Gangivecchio convent, about 5 Km. Take the dirt road on the right that will lead us to the Forestry Property, not visible from this side. After having traveled this road slightly uphill, in a typically pasture environment, with the presence of shrubs and brambles, once we reach the top of this hill, a different and unimaginable panorama will be presented to our eyes. An entrance gate and a lock allow us to access the equipped area located and built at the beginning of the wooded complex.
Black pines, maples, cedars, alders, chestnuts, acacias, poplars, holm oaks, all planted tree species, are the green outline of this area within the homonymous wooded complex.
Benches, tables, waste bins, a well-equipped playground, fireplaces, a pond and other comforts are the furnishings of this area, all well integrated into the environment. This area is very popular with scouts and hikers.
We are at an altitude of 1000 meters above sea level, far from polluting sources, an ideal place for a carefree holiday in contact with nature and pleasant for both adults and children. Excursions are possible throughout the state-owned wooded complex of about 150 hectares rich in both shrub and herbaceous vegetation, including many medicinal essences.

Note on Sources
The information on the equipped state-owned areas has as its main source the website of the Regional Forestry Department of Sicily (continuously updated) to which is added a very interesting brochure entitled "The State Equipped Areas in Sicily" of the same department published in 1999 with the Editorial Coordination of the 8th Group - Promotion, Development and Research, editors Agostino Gatto and Valeria Restuccia. Further information was obtained from direct access to the areas and from interviews with experts and operators in the sector.
