Piano Zucchi Equipped Area

In the heart of the Madonie, along the main artery that connects Collesano to Polizzi Generosa and the Petralie, about 15 km from the town of Collesano, an equipped area owned by the Forestry Company has been created. The beauty of the landscape and the healthiness of the places are the visiting card of this state-owned area located in the Piano Zucchi area, near a forest accommodation.
Black pines, cypresses, holm oaks, downy oaks, maples and other herbaceous and shrubby plants are the surrounding landscape of this equipped area renowned throughout Sicily and therefore frequented all year round; in summer by those looking for a bit of coolness and in winter mainly by snow lovers.
Along the road that, departing from Collesano, leads up to Piano Zucchi first, to the equipped area, and then continuing to Piano Battaglia, the vegetation succession has made us taste the flavor of the Sicilian forest in its true essence and one feels as if in another world, in a situation different from everyday life that we will try to enjoy to the fullest. It is like diving into greenery for a day and forgetting what we do every day inebriated by Nature in its noblest guise. The equipped area, due to its convenient location, can also be considered as an ideal base point for possible excursions into the Madonite environment and, in particular, for a visit to the last specimens of Abies nebrodensis in the Madonna degli Angeli Valley and to see Piano Cervi the natural lake and the holly bushes.

The information on the equipped state-owned areas has as its main source the website of the Regional Forestry Department of Sicily (continuously updated) to which is added a very interesting brochure entitled "The State Equipped Areas in Sicily" of the same department published in 1999 with the Editorial Coordination of the 8th Group - Promotion, Development and Research, editors Agostino Gatto and Valeria Restuccia. Further information was obtained from direct access to the areas and from interviews with experts and operators in the sector.
