Equipped Island Area

The “Isola” equipped area located in the “Castello Concerie” forest property in the municipality of Sant´Angelo Muxaro, identified with the mythical “Kamikos of King Kokalos”, occupies about three hectares of dense wood. It is equipped with numerous services, including the availability of fountains for running water, thanks to the intervention of the Municipality of Sant´Angelo Muxaro. In the surroundings of the equipped area it is possible to visit the "caves" of Monte Castello and the RNI "Grotte di Sant´Angelo".
How to reach the area:
Starting from Sant'angelo Muxaro, follow the signs for San Biagio Platani. After traveling 4 kilometers you will come to a crossroads, a dirt road, about 2 kilometers long, leads to the site

The information on the equipped state-owned areas has as its main source the website of the Regional Forestry Department of Sicily (continuously updated) to which is added a very interesting brochure entitled "The State Equipped Areas in Sicily" of the same department published in 1999 with the Editorial Coordination of the 8th Group - Promotion, Development and Research, editors Agostino Gatto and Valeria Restuccia. Further information was obtained from direct access to the areas and from interviews with experts and operators in the sector.
