Description

Firrio Equipped Area

Along the Palermo-Agrigento expressway, reach the crossroads for Grotte and follow this direction.
After a few kilometers between agricultural and pasture lands, a wooded complex imposes itself on our sight as if to ask us to visit it; it is the Firrio wood, a forest area acquired for over twenty years, in which a wooded complex with Mediterranean essences, mainly pines, has been created. It was a sort of challenge against nature to recover apparently unsuitable land in the woods with results that speak for themselves. For this reason, an equipped area was created, both to make the community aware of the commitment of the foresters in defense of the territory but also for the use of this state property, trying to form the so-called "wood sculpture".

Note on Sources

The information on the equipped state-owned areas has as its main source the website of the Regional Forestry Department of Sicily (continuously updated) to which is added a very interesting brochure entitled "The State Equipped Areas in Sicily" of the same department published in 1999 with the Editorial Coordination of the 8th Group - Promotion, Development and Research, editors Agostino Gatto and Valeria Restuccia. Further information was obtained from direct access to the areas and from interviews with experts and operators in the sector.

For official information and updates to the lists, see the pages of the site of the Sicily region - Department of the Regional State Forestry Company
