Santa Venera state-owned equipped area
From Montelepre follow the provincial road n. 40 for Carini. About 4 km from the crossroads, the rounded crowns of domestic pines, in stark contrast to the Dolomite rocks, indicate that we are in the wooded complex of Montagna Longa. On the right you will notice a quarry in operation and all around many, many trees. Before arriving at the main entrance of the quarry on the left you will have to take the dirt road at the beginning of which there is an arrow indicating the indication "Bosco Santa Venera".
You will have to follow this dirt road, pass the gate delimiting the boundary of the state-owned territory, and continue on the main route. After various hairpin bends and many many pines both to the right and to the left, after about 3 Km. Of distance from the forest gate we arrive at the equipped area, the destination of our journey.
The environment is quite suggestive with the tall pines that look like many columns reaching out to the sky from which the sunlight can hardly pass. The equipped area is located in a flat area near a forest shelter. Wooden tables, cooking points, fountains with water and a cottage used as a toilet are the equipment of this equipped area located in an area that has been recovered in the woods thanks to the work and commitment of Sicilian foresters. Considering that the surrounding areas are entrusted to pasture, in the wood you can meet several herds of cows, which, all in all, are the scenographic note of the Montagna Longa wood.

Note on Sources
The information on the equipped state-owned areas has as its main source the Internet site of the Regional Forestry Department of Sicily (constantly updated) to which is added a very interesting brochure entitled "The State Equipped Areas in Sicily" of the same department published in 1999 with the Editorial Coordination of the 8th Group - Promotion, Development and Research, editors Agostino Gatto and Valeria Restuccia. Further information was obtained from direct access to the areas and from interviews with experts and operators in the sector.
