Santa Focà state-owned equipped area
From Castelbuono follow the directions for Milocca. At about 7 Km. You will meet a crossroads - Case Liccia - and take the road on the left, despite the no-entry sign. At about 800 meters in the road first asphalted and then unpaved, on the left we see the equipped area, which is accessed by a special entrance gate.
Located in a flat area there are benches, fires, wooden tables, a swing, a pond, drinking water fountains, an old drinking trough recovered neglected a small country-style building used as a toilet and a built "straw" on the traces of an ancient pre-existence.
Black pines, elms, poplars, willows, holm oaks and other tree species are the green roof of this well-equipped area well integrated into the environment. The lawn is made up of perennial grasses that give the soil the appearance of an “English style” evergreen lawn. The wood that surrounds the area in its noble composition gives the whole environment a particular charm.
The area covers about three hectares and it can be said that it represents the heart of the Madonie Park, a unique environment of Sicily, which has contributed to the development of the natural sciences of the island. From this area it is possible to undertake excursions towards Piano Pomo Piano Sempria and throughout the rest of the Madonite territory. In anticipation of its expansion, the area may also be used for the handicapped.

Note on Sources
The information on the equipped state-owned areas has as its main source the website of the Regional Forestry Department of Sicily (continuously updated) to which is added a very interesting brochure entitled "The State Equipped Areas in Sicily" of the same department published in 1999 with the Editorial Coordination of the 8th Group - Promotion, Development and Research, editors Agostino Gatto and Valeria Restuccia. Further information was obtained from direct access to the areas and from interviews with experts and operators in the sector.
