Description

Noto Antica state-owned equipped area

To get there, you start from Noto and take the provincial road in the direction of Palazzolo Acreide. After about 6 Km. Continue left towards Madonna della Scala and, following another 3 Km., You will arrive at Noto Antica-Porta Reale where the equipped area is the destination of our journey. This is certainly an exciting and suggestive path because forest plants almost abruptly succeed agricultural cultures. Around the equipped area deriving from artificial plant, however, you will notice interesting strips of Mediterranean scrub also high with holm oak and downy oak.
Tables, benches and cooking points are the infrastructures present in this area built in a beautiful grove of Mediterranean pines. These comforts are located along the road up to Testa dell'Acqua, a residential area in the municipality of Noto, which extends for about 2 km. and the undergrowth is very rich in mastic and alaternal. The equipped area is very popular at all times of the year both for its happy location and for the possibility that the forest offers in this part of south-eastern Sicily. In the area there are also interesting archaeological finds, in the locality of Noto Antica, which testify to the presence of Sican populations, who lived in these areas. Near the area there is the entrance to visit the Cavagrande del Cassibile Nature Reserve, one of the most beautiful places in Sicily.

Note on Sources

The information on the equipped state-owned areas has as its main source the website of the Regional Forestry Department of Sicily (continuously updated) to which is added a very interesting brochure entitled "The State Equipped Areas in Sicily" of the same department published in 1999 with the Editorial Coordination of the 8th Group - Promotion, Development and Research, editors Agostino Gatto and Valeria Restuccia. Further information was obtained from direct access to the areas and from interviews with experts and operators in the sector.
