Description

Forte Carraro state-owned equipped area

From the Colle San Rizzo junction along the provincial road n - 50 bis that leads to Dinnammare, less than 400 meters from the aforementioned junction, on the left, under the highway, an equipped area has been created under old and columnar pines. The accommodation facilities present, wooden benches and tables located in flat areas and in a panoramic position, are few but always busy, especially on holidays. This area will soon be expanded because it represents a very popular destination and because it allows you to make pleasant excursions in the woods. In the appurtenances of Forte Carraro, which gave the area its name, the Forestry Company is conducting an experimental breeding of fallow deer and red deer, species historically present in the area, even if introduced in the last century for hunting purposes.

Note on Sources

The information on the equipped state-owned areas has as its main source the website of the Regional Forestry Department of Sicily (continuously updated) to which is added a very interesting brochure entitled "The State Equipped Areas in Sicily" of the same department published in 1999 with the Editorial Coordination of the 8th Group - Promotion, Development and Research, editors Agostino Gatto and Valeria Restuccia. Further information was obtained from direct access to the areas and from interviews with experts and operators in the sector.
