Foleo state-owned equipped area
Continuing on the state road that led us to Acquarosa, after about three kilometers, we arrive at the equipped area of Foleo.
The wooded cover of this area is made up of pines, chestnuts and at times even eucalyptus and acacias in multicolored composition of particular beauty and suggestion. The flora of the undergrowth is also interesting, rich in violets, among other things, in spring.
The receptivity of the area is given by several wooden tables and benches, a cooking point, a fountain, and near the cooking point also an oven that can be used if necessary to be able to make pizzas in the woods to be consumed at the moment. Wood is provided free of charge by the Forestry Administration.
Attached to the area there is also a forest shelter used as a warehouse-shelter for work tools and a chapel dedicated to S. Giovanni Gualberto was built in the appurtenances.
Every year, before the summer, a kind of thanksgiving day is celebrated here by the forestry staff.
This area can also be reached from Barcelona by following the signs for Gaia. After the Miliardo district, continue along the asphalted road and after about 1 Km. A road on the left, slightly uphill, between characteristic tree-lined bends, takes us to the equipped area of Foleo.
The proximity of this area to inhabited centers soon made it one of the most popular.

Note on Sources
The information on the equipped state-owned areas has as its main source the Internet site of the Regional Forestry Department of Sicily (constantly updated) to which is added a very interesting brochure entitled "The State Equipped Areas in Sicily" of the same department published in 1999 with the Editorial Coordination of the 8th Group - Promotion, Development and Research, editors Agostino Gatto and Valeria Restuccia. Further information was obtained from direct access to the areas and from interviews with experts and operators in the sector.
