Cavolata state-owned equipped area
From Castroreale reach the hamlet of Rafia about 7 km away. From here, head towards the groups of pines and deciduous forest species that herald the entrance to the state-owned area; continue for a few hundred meters and on the left you will find, almost on the road, the equipped area we wanted to reach. The accommodation facilities are few
but welcoming: a single fire point, tables with benches, a fountain with water and other comforts, are all there is. Despite these structural deficiencies, the area is a popular destination for many Sunday day trippers and in summer in particular for scout groups from different locations on the island, representing an almost obligatory stopping place on an itinerary that allows you to cross this suggestive part of the Peloritani . The panoramic position of the area allows a view of the Longano Torrent which gives its name to the Montano Basin.

Note on Sources
The information on the equipped state-owned areas has as its main source the website of the Regional Forestry Department of Sicily (continuously updated) to which is added a very interesting brochure entitled "The State Equipped Areas in Sicily" of the same department published in 1999 with the Editorial Coordination of the 8th Group - Promotion, Development and Research, editors Agostino Gatto and Valeria Restuccia. Further information was obtained from direct access to the areas and from interviews with experts and operators in the sector.
