Balestrate state-owned equipped area
Description

Balestrate state-owned equipped area

The equipped area in question was built near the Calatubo stream in the area of the mouth, in the artificial wooded complex built a few twenty years ago with species resistant to saltiness, such as acacia and in the part a little further upstream with eucalyptus. In this coastal territory owned by state property, in an area highly divided into small villas, near the beach, an equipped area has been created and whose infrastructures are wooden benches and tables, some cooking points, fountains, waste bins, etc. well integrated into the environment, to allow a respectable holiday or rest in the open air.

The place has quickly become an obligatory destination for those who choose this place to swim in the summer and therefore, in the hottest hours of the day, rest in the shade of the trees in an area equipped with many simple comforts.

The area can be reached by taking the road along the Balestrate beach, where the state property begins. Along this artery, which winds through the wooded complex, the equipped area will soon present itself to our eyes, also because the road has no outlet and you will have to go back.

The beauty of this small area, in a small state property, is given by the proximity to the sea whereby the forest and the sea almost merge, giving a different feeling compared to other areas built in a more mountainous environment.

Note on Sources

The information on the equipped state-owned areas has as its main source the website of the Regional Forestry Department of Sicily (continuously updated) to which is added a very interesting brochure entitled "The State Equipped Areas in Sicily" of the same department published in 1999 with the Editorial Coordination of the 8th Group - Promotion, Development and Research, editors Agostino Gatto and Valeria Restuccia. Further information was obtained from direct access to the areas and from interviews with experts and operators in the sector.
