Cavagna Equipped Area
Description

Cavagna Equipped Area

From S. Teresa Riva, take the SP n. 23 for Rimiti, a hamlet of Casalvecchio Siculo about 14 km away. Along the way you will cross the hamlets of Misserio Misitano, then you will arrive in Rimiti, by means of a very suggestive road halfway up the coast. From Rimiti continue along the municipal road to Antillo and after about 1 km take the road on the right that will lead us to the Savoca Forestry Property. About 2 Km. From the aforementioned crossroads, crossing a beautiful chestnut wood and various oak species, you will arrive at the equipped area located halfway up the coast on the south-east side of the Misitano stream. At present, the area consists of a few accommodation facilities, benches, tables, swing, all made with local wood, a large stone seat and a fountain with spring water, but it is expected that it will soon be expanded to allow a more efficient use by the many hikers and visitors of both the area in question and the surrounding wooded complex.

The area is renowned for the possibility it offers, of porcini mushroom picking and for the beauty of the observable views including Mount Etna.

Note on Sources

The information on the equipped state-owned areas has as its main source the website of the Regional Forestry Department of Sicily (continuously updated) to which is added a very interesting brochure entitled "The State Equipped Areas in Sicily" of the same department published in 1999 with the Editorial Coordination of the 8th Group - Promotion, Development and Research, editors Agostino Gatto and Valeria Restuccia. Further information was obtained from direct access to the areas and from interviews with experts and operators in the sector.
