Description

Casalotto Equipped Area

From the northern outskirts (Ficuzza side) of Piana degli Albanesi follow the signs indicating the direction "Lago". Walk for about 500 meters and at the crossroads follow the signs for “Equipped area”. After about a kilometer, continue to follow the signs for "Equipped area" and from this last intersection, on the left, after about 600 meters you will reach the entrance to the wooded area "Casalotto" and the equipped area therein indicated as " picnic area". The entrance to the wooded area is characterized by a paved stretch of road bordered by dry stone walls and a wooden fence.
If the gate is closed, entry is possible from a side opening. The cars and motorized vehicles, of course, will be parked on this side of the forest gate. The equipped area insists on an artificial wooded area of about 10 hectares around the lake of Piana degli Albanesi characterized by Mediterranean pines, eucalyptus, cypresses and ash trees. Inside the wood there are several paths that run along the lake and make the walk quite suggestive.
In spring the undergrowth and all the open areas are teeming with different colors due to the many herbaceous and shrubby blooms that embellish the area.

Note on Sources

The information on the equipped state-owned areas has as its main source the website of the Regional Forestry Department of Sicily (continuously updated) to which is added a very interesting brochure entitled "The State Equipped Areas in Sicily" of the same department published in 1999 with the Editorial Coordination of the 8th Group - Promotion, Development and Research, editors Agostino Gatto and Valeria Restuccia. Further information was obtained from direct access to the areas and from interviews with experts and operators in the sector.
