Altars of San Giuseppe di Alcamo

Photo: web

The altars of St. Joseph, adorned with bread and symbols of faith, are prepared by the faithful, generally a person or a family, and become a place of worship and prayer for the entire period in which they remain visible, about a week. It is not a question of a simple choice of the faithful, the altars are made by grace received, that is, they can be arranged by those who have turned to the Saint and received a grace from him. Traditionally, the family and the neighborhood participate in the creation of the altar, the decorations and the bread, as it is a job that is anything but quick and easy. The Saturday preceding the beginning of the week with the altar we proceed to the dough and the creation of the traditional breads, which in some countries take the name of “cucciddati”; on Monday, however, the priest blesses the place and the bread and initiates the prayers and visits of the faithful. Every day around the altar different faithful and onlookers gather and every evening all those present recite the rosary together and sing the praises. (Source: lqamah.it)
