Abyss of the Wind

Abyss of the Wind

Cavity known in ancient times as Gushing water because from the small entrance hole, then inaccessible to man, the rustle of a violent current of air was interpreted as swirling groundwater. In 1972 young people from the ASCI of Cefalù, treasuring the reading of Grisanti, widened the entrance and after a slide of about twenty meters, they reached an environment with horizontal and vertical branches that reach a development of about 2000 meters and a depth of 200 meters. In a wall of the first room, inside a natural niche, which as I have been able to observe recalls the “oven” tombs, the grave goods of a number of depositions were found which I have not been able to reconstruct; probably three. The finds recovered are: 6 globular ollette and 3 cups 6 to 13 cm high; 25 necklace grains of which 2 of calcite and 23 obtained from fossil shells (Conus and Dentalium), 7 flint blades. In the room, 16 fragments of a large olla with graffiti decoration were collected, used for the collection of dripping water for drinking. It is a burial with finds from the S. Cono-Pino Notaro culture. F ° 260 IV NO, Isnello; UTM: VB13069843. Altitude: 843 m.
