Description

The Baroque of Val di Noto in the UNESCO World Heritage is a photographic work (over 500 images) and an in-depth work on the Baroque of the Val di Noto and in particular the Baroque of the municipalities included within the UNESCO site "The late Baroque cities of the Val di Noto (south-eastern Sicily) ".

The volume, after a brief presentation of the Baroque style, its history and the main Italian and Sicilian characters who influenced the style which some call the "non-style", reports the files of the main Baroque monuments (over 140) falling within the eight municipalities concerned to the UNESCO recognition: Noto, Palazzolo Acreide, Scicli, Modica, Ragusa, Militello Val Di Catania, Caltagirone, Catania. The last chapter presents the form illustrating the criteria for inclusion in the World Heritage List (World Heritage List).

An innovative feature is that all the monuments can be viewed online within the telematic archive of the "Heritage" Cultural Heritage, the first Geo-Social, Multi-thematic and Territorial Cultural Archive, containing the assets of the material cultural heritage (historical-artistic cultural heritage, landscape and natural) and immaterial (tradition, folklore, art, food and wine, typical crafts) of Sicily and Malta. The archive, as of 2022, is made up of over 10.000 multimedia cards.
