Bronte, personification of thunder, is one of the three brothers known by the name of Cyclopes Uranidi. Bronte and his brothers were allies of the Olympians in the Titanomachy.
The Uranid Cyclopes were also known as the one-eyed giants and skilled blacksmiths who helped Vulcan make lightning. This aspect is also mentioned by Virgil (Aeneid):
“Inside a large cavern, the Brontes Cyclops, Stèrope and, with their limbs naked, Piràcmon manipulated iron”.
Bronte therefore lived on Etna and the same sound of thunder was attributed to him.
Legend has it that the current town of Bronte was founded by the Cyclops Bronte.
